water bearer
Original abstract acrylic painting. This is a diptych consisting of two 9 x 9 x 2 inch paintings on canvas. The top canvas has a roughly painted steely blue background behind boldly painted oval and round shapes and marks of varied size and transparency. The shapes recall biological or natural elements viewed at microscopic perspective, clinging together, reacting, dispersing and flowing toward the bottom canvas where they come to rest, and the colors saturate and appear vibrant over the (hot and thirsty) bright red textured background.
This piece can be hung in different configurations (it was painted in various orientations) — the canvases can be slightly separated, switched in position, or even hung horizontally; as shown here, the background appears as air over water. This piece is chunky in ratio, comparatively deep at 2 inches. It is unframed with painted sides, and each canvas is signed on the back.
